		<title>Following The Indian Trails</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Places we will visit:</strong> Paso Marcos, Ximiriñak, High Tobosi, Kabery, China Kicha, Chapel One, High Quetzal, Grano de Oro</p>
<p><strong>Duration</strong>: two days of hiking.</p>
<p>The group will also needs an extra half a day for transportation to the starting place.</p>
<p>The departure from San Jose is the day prior to arrival at 12 noon at  Quetzal Alto about 4 pm.</p>
<p><strong>Location:</strong> Indian Reservation Cabécar Chirripó Turrialba. Entrance to the mountain, about 35 miles northeast of the city of Turrialba.</p>
<p><strong>Itinerary:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Day 1: 8 hours</strong></p>
<p>We will start the hike at 6 am in the Alto Quetzal, with a descent to the Chirripó River. It continues alongside the river facing several climbs up to the community of Kabery.</p>
<p><strong>Day 2: 6 hours</strong></p>
<p>The second day starts with a slight ascent to Cerro Tobosi, and  descend to the community of Ximiriñac. From here you continue along the Pacuare River to Paso Marcos, which is the point of arrival.</p>
<p>Indian huts are observed, high mountains, lush vegetation and diverse variety of birds. Creeks and streams are crossed and you will be walking alongside the<strong>Pacuare</strong> and <strong>Chirripo Rivers</strong>. At night you will enjoy some time with local residents to learn about the <strong>Indian culture Cabécar</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Kabery indigenous community</strong>, is a small isolated mountain which can only be accessed by trails. There is no electricity or telephone lines.</p>
<p><strong>Recommendations:</strong></p>
<p>Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, cap (or hat), towel, sunscreen, water, sleeping bag, plastic sheeting, tent. Sweater and extra clothing. (Especially socks) Pack clothes in plastic bags inside the backpack to avoid getting wet.</p>
<p>Do not forget to take your medications and grooming utensils</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em><strong>Recreational hike. Low physical effort</strong></em></p>
<p>Four hours of walking on the banks of the <strong>Pacuare River</strong> on the sector of the <strong>Indian Reservation Chirripó-Turrialba</strong>. (Cerro Congo – Step Marcos) Land basically flat with slight climbs on the hills. This is a whitewater river craved for rafting.</p>
<p>Through the route, you can see several of its tributaries and the lush scenery of the <strong>Talamanca Mountains</strong> tinged of forests and waterfalls. It is also easy to see birds of various species.</p>
<p>This area is inhabited by <strong>aboriginal Cabecares</strong>, one of eight indigenous groups prevailing in <strong>Costa Rica</strong>. This group retains many of its traditions intact. They are friendly and helpful.</p>
<p>On the move, you will go through the city of Cartago, former capital of Costa Rica. Here you can see the ruins of the <strong>Temple of St. James and the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Angels</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Itinerary:</strong></p>
<p><strong>6 am:</strong> Departure from San Jose</p>
<p><strong>8:00 a.m:</strong> Breakfast in the city of Turrialba</p>
<p><strong>9:30 a.m:</strong> Arrive at Lower Pacuare and start hiking</p>
<p><strong>2.00 pm:</strong> End of hike and lunch</p>
<p><strong>2.30 pm:</strong> Return to San José</p>
<p><strong>5.30 pm:</strong> Time of arrival in San Jose</p>
<p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p>
<p>Comfortable clothes and shoes, cap (or hat) towel, extra shirt or T-shirt, sunscreen, water.</p>
<p>Do not forget to bring your personal medications.</p>
<p><strong>Lunch:</strong> sandwiches, fruit and soda. Provided by the operator.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Turrialba – Perez Zeledon. <em>Indian Reservation Tour Cabécar and Chirripó. The whole trip is only for mountain trails.</em></strong></p>
<p>This <strong>Hiking Tour</strong> passes through indigenous communities whose inhabitants still retain many of their customs and traditions in addition to their native dialect. In the way up you can enjoy the view of white water rivers, waterfalls, forests of giant trees, wildlife, bird watching, extensive moors, rocky terrain and experience significant temperature changes.</p>
<p>This hike requires a high effort, because it has strong ups and downs, very broken as well as muddy trails. The hikes will take about 8 hours each day, with breaks at midmorning, midday and afternoon. You can count on the support of indigenous porters and horses that carry the load the first two days. (<strong>Additional cost</strong>)</p>
<p><strong>Itinerary</strong></p>
<p><strong>Day 1:</strong><strong> </strong>Departure from San Jose to the community of Grano de Oro in Turrialba (about three hours away by car) The last part of the journey is by rustic road. In Grano de Oro we will stay in a rustic lodge. Dinner will be served at the home of a peasant family.</p>
<p><strong>Day 2:</strong><strong> </strong>Breakfast at 6 am. Transfer by car to the community rural of Quetzal to start the hike at 7.30 am. The hike starts on a path leading down to the mighty river verge. Then, will continue to the side of the river to an Indian village, where we will camp.</p>
<p><strong>Day 3:</strong><strong> </strong>7.30 am. We will continue along narrow trails through dense forest with steep slopes. Along the way you can see breathtaking scenery to finally reach the Indian community site of Gilda, at approximately 4 pm. These isolated mountain communities have no electricity and water should be taken from natural sources that we will supply potable water.</p>
<p><strong>Day 4:</strong><strong> </strong>7:30 a.m. The day starts with a strong ascent to Cerro Uran. Here you need to prepare mentally for the long day that slowly takes you to a place called Purple Hearts of Palm, we`ll have the company of the singing of hundreds of birds, arrive about 4 pm and will camp there.</p>
<p><strong>Day 5:</strong><strong> </strong>7:30 a.m. We will continue the ascent to a place called Paso de los Indios where we will camp. This point is rather cold, about 10.000 feet. This is a wilderness area with its typical nuanced stunted vegetation, grasses and mosses of fascinating colors. Estimated time of arrival 4 pm.</p>
<p><strong>Day 6:</strong> 7.30. Begins the descent through the wilderness and then into the forest to reach the town of Herradura. In this place we will be picked up by a car to take us to a hostel where you can take a refreshing shower and prepare for the return to San Jose, but not before enjoying a hearty lunch. Estimated time of arrival at San Jose at 9 pm.</p>
